May Community Updates

With a blink of an eye, April came and went!

Interim Committee and Appropriations meetings will be starting up this month. I have once again been asked to serve on Transportation and Business & Labor committees, as well as the Business, Economic Development & Labor Appropriations Committee. I was also asked to serve on the newly formed Criminal Justice Data Management Task Force. I will share the updated schedules as they are available so that you can follow along and give input on any items that are of significance to you.

I am so grateful to serve my community with these amazing, strong and dedicated women. I feel comfortable saying that I speak for the Mayor and myself when I say that we are especially grateful for the health, strength, and leadership of Senator Mayne. She is a force to be reckoned with and we look forward to continue to work with, and learn from her to support and serve the community!

It’s no secret that we are so fortunate to have the Evidence2Success Youth Community Coalition diligently working and supporting our community. I was over the moon when I heard that they were nominated and recognized at Utah’s Best in State!!

A big THANK YOU to the Community Council for putting together the fun Easter egg hunt at the library! I know two very happy little bunnies in particular that had a great time.

You can find a list of all their upcoming events by clicking HERE.

The Community Council dedicates so much time and effort into serving the needs of our community. This is why I was especially frustrated to receive the following email from Paula of the KCC:

“I am saddened and very angry to state that the Kearns Community Council’s utility trailer was stolen, yes stolen, out of a locked storage facility here in Kearns.  They broke off the tongue lock and just stole it, which means they just hooked up to it and drove it out.  Our great police officers are diligently looking for it and I have faith in them to find it and the contents.  It has all our equipment and items in it for our community events and everything we do.  Because we are very frugal with our funds it took us about 10+ years to accumulate all this and it is all purchased from our funds which are very limited.  So, this was stolen from the community.  It is a white, all enclosed trailer, koone side door, back end opens up, and is a 2014 Interstate 12-foot enclosed trailer.  It does have some damage on the left front panel.    This is the truck that stole the trailer and these pictures come from UPD who are as sicken as we are.  Please keep an eye out for it and report anything you find to the police, contact myself, or any council member.”

If you see or hear anything, please call UPD. To my knowledge the trailer is still missing.

Teacher Appreciation Day was May 3rd, and we collected all of the items generously donated by community members and friends, and dropped them off at South Kearns Elementary. THANK YOU so much to everyone who joined to show love and support for our Teachers and Schools! Everyone who participated loved the opportunity, so we will keep this as an ongoing service project and rotate through the seven public schools in our District!

To save time on shopping you can order directly from the Amazon shopping list and have them shipped for you.

Spread the word! Healthy Kearns Movement, which is a part of Evidence2Success, is going to be sending out a community health and wellbeing survey to a select number of Kearns residents. If you receive a survey invitation in the mail, please participate! Your responses will help to improve the quality of health and wellbeing throughout Kearns.
There will be no in-person Market in May, but the June market is already scheduled for June 18th at Oquirrh Elementary, just North of the Library. I will share the flyer and updated details as they are made available. Looking forward to seeing you there!

LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Did you know that the Classic Gentleman is Kearns longest running small business? They have been serving this community for over 60 years. Last summer they relocated, and are now keeping folks looking their best from their new location: 4090 W 5415 S #117, Kearns, UT 84118.

My husband has been getting his haircut there for years, and my son has been getting his haircut by Emily since he was 3 years old. We love the atmosphere and the friendships that come as part of the customer experience. I strongly suggest stopping by if you haven’t already!

Let’s Get in Contact!
When emailing, if you live in House District 38 (now 37 – you can check here), please include “Constituent” in the email subject and your home address in the body of the text. This information allows me to prioritize responses to my community members and residents first. New District boundaries are outlined below, but run from 6600 South to 4700 South, and from Bangerter to 5600 West.
